Garret Van Santen, owner of Sequoia Tree Service has always been an outdoorsman and a bit of an adrenaline junky, so it is no wonder he landed in the Arboriculture Industry.

At a young age, Garret replied to an ad in the Woodstock paper for a landscape technician program hosted by the LIUNA local 1059 in London. There, he met industry professionals who eventually put him on the path to his post-secondary education at the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture where he learned all aspects of the green industry, his favorite being Arboriculture. While you can be apprenticed, log hours and pass your test to become an arborist, Garret felt it was important to attend the school program that he did as the experts he met there helped propel his career. It provided him the opportunity to maintain close relationships with many of his professors and instructors and he is proud that his industry wants to see people succeed and is eager to share information.

Garret is proud to run a quality business and expects the same level of safety and work ethic from his employees. He believes in safety first and never cuts corners. His advice to all of his employees is “Keep your head on a swivel and always remember you are responsible for your own safety.”
